Development
Original version (Fortran 77)
TNT has been developed since 1994 by Dipartimento di Ingegneria Aerospaziale of Politecnico di Milano.
Since 1996 specialized engineers from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and from GESTE Engineering contributed to the software development and to its validation.
Since 1999, GESTE Engineering branched its own version of the code to deal with industrial applications.
New version (Python/C++)
Since 2017, GESTE Engineering developed a completely new version to add new capabilities such as:
- Low-Mach and incompressible Navier-Stokes model for long-term simulations and the computation of steady-state solutions;
- Dynamic coupling with industrial CFD software in order to enhance the computation of three-dimensional effects close to moving vehicles, around fire seats and in geometrically complex sections of the network (crossovers, bifurcation, stations);
- Shell-conduction model for heat transfer in the solid walls;
- Coupling of fluid dynamics and fire chemistry;
- Train scheduling module for complex railway or metro networks;
- Coupling of evacuation simulations and fluid dynamics.
