On Friday, 9 May 2025, a site visit to the Broye modernisation project was organised for a delegation from SBB CFF FFS comprising infrastructure project managers from Switzerland and the western region.
The Broye line modernisation project involves upgrading 90 kilometres of track and transforming 12 stations to improve timetable stability, increase rail safety and enhance passenger comfort:
- Modernisation of the railway line;
- Automated traffic management from Lausanne to replace manual points, most of which date from the 1960s and 1970s (replacement of 17 obsolete interlockings and construction of eight new service buildings);
- LHand compliance of 12 stations to facilitate access to the railway infrastructure for all;
- 63 level crossings to be adapted;
- Numerous related projects, including the renewal of many structures
In order to ensure that operations are not completely interrupted during the entire project, it has been divided into three sections, each of which can operate independently.
- Section 1: Palézieux – Payerne (excluding Payerne) currently under construction with commercial traffic interrupted (clustering) since 14 February and until 9 June
- Section 2: Payerne – Kerzers (excluding Payerne) with night work and clustering planned for 2026
- Section 3: Cheyres-Châbles – Payerne – Givisiez, with work scheduled for 2027
The total cost of this work is over CHF 250 million.
GESTE Engineering has been awarded the general works management contract for the ATR section on all three sections, as well as the cable engineering contract. On Friday 9 May 2025, the stations at Moudon and Ecublens were visited
